SL10.ng can exclusively report that Nigeria Under 20 international Ifeanyi Matthew jetted off to France late Friday evening to begin tests with Ligue I outfit Marseille, with a view to a switch in the January transfer window.

Several teams in Europe including Spanish clubs have been keeping tabs on the El-Kanemi Warriors midfielder since he broke into the junior national team setup.

But it is Marseille that are now in the driving seat to secure his signature after they backed up their interest by inviting him for trials.

''Ifeanyi Matthew left Nigeria for France on Friday night by 10 pm with an Air France flight,'' a representative of Ifeanyi Mathew told SL10.ng.

''He will test with Marseille for three weeks and we are confident he will be offered a contract when the trials are concluded.''

Ifeanyi Mathew, who clocks 18 next January, is regarded as one of the top talents plying his trade in the domestic championship, and was part and parcel of the Golden Eaglets squad that won silver at the 2013 African U-17 Championship.

He is described as a strong midfielder with excellent range of passing, athletic and has good ball sense.

The teenager is represented by French-Cameroonian agent, Oliver Noah.
