Nigerian born former USA U20 midfielder, William Oluremi John’s proposed move to Irish Premier League club, Shamrock Rovers has hit the rocks, SL10.ng can exclusively reveal.

John, who has been without a club since terminating his contract with Moroccan club, Mas de Fes over unpaid wages, was flown by Rovers, Ireland's most successful club with a league record 17 titles, last week to participate in a friendly match to assess his fitness level after having left Mas de Fes a little over one month ago.

John impressed in the match scoring one and nearly assisting on another with a beautiful left footed cross as the Rovers leapt to a 3-0 win over Waterford United. The former USA U-20 star played a total of 55 minutes in the match.

The 29-year old had this to say after the match: “It was a lot of fun, the club is truly well run and they have a great group of guys and great team chemistry.”

The former Chicago Fire midfielder however refused to comment on why the deal broke down.

“It's football, we both wanted to make the deal happen but sometimes it just doesn't work out,” John told SL10.ng.

Talks between both parties have been ongoing for almost a week now and appear to have hit a stalemate.

John was rather coy about his next destination, stating that he had already begun speaking to two clubs in Western Europe. When asked about the possibility of returning to the MLS John smirked: “Never say never but I don't think I'll be heading home just yet.”

SL10.ng can also confirm that the player is currently in Zagreb, Croatia, as he bids to tie up a deal with another club.
