FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi outshone Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the “Best La Liga player for 2014/15” polls in Spain.

Despite Portuguese outscoring the Argentine in the league this season, Messi topped Ronaldo in two polls that were done by Spanish websites Marca and AS.

According to the polls, Messi has become more influential all over the pitch, rather than just in the final third.

The Argentine also created space for others and used his precise passing ability to help his team overcome a number of opponents this season.

In the AS poll, the Argentine picked up 55,87%  of the votes, while Real Madrid’s duo of Ronaldo and James Rodriguez came second and third.

Even though Ronaldo didn’t win any major silverware this season, he certainly didn’t have a terrible campaign on a personal level, as he scored 48 goals in La Liga. However, the fans believe that he was not as influential as Messi.

The Argentine had a slow start to the La Liga season, but when he found his form he was unstoppable - as he scored 43 goals in La Liga and assisted 29 more.
