Former Bendel Insurance player and Nigeria’s U23 team Captain, Ehrun Obanor, has explained why he chose Abia Warriors FC over Nigerian League champions, Kano Pillars, and 2014 Federation Cup champions, Enyimba FC.

Obanor, who joined the Ochendo Babes from Bendel Insurance of Benin at the beginning of this season, said that ‘bigger’ clubs like Enyimba FC and Kano Pillars wanted him after watching him at the All-Africa Games qualifiers but he decided to pitch his tent with the Umuahia based outfit for personal reasons.

“Football is not just about playing the ball but a place where you will have a rest of mind. Abia Warriors is a place where you play football and you have a rest of mind that is why I decided to be here,” the left-footed defender said.

According to him former Warriors striker, Peter Onyekachi, and Abia Warriors’ midfielder, Michael Ibe Okoro, all of whom also feature for the U-23 team, influenced his coming to Umuahia, describing the duo as some of the finest players in Nigeria.

The Dream Team skipper said Abia Warriors have the potential to win trophies this season if they remain focused since they have a good coach and a well-established management. He pointed out that the players were determined to do well and win domestic trophies as well as ensure a continental ticket.

Obanor also expressed confidence that the Dream Team, which he captains will do well at both the All-Africa and the Olympic Games, considering the array of stars in the team and the technical prowess of coach Samson Siasia.
