Baxter's Failure To Field The Best Starting Eleven Cost Us A Place In Russia - Reader’s Voice

Bafana Bafana gave away the greatest opportunity to qualify for 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia next year and I put the blame on our coach Stuart Baxter.

Baxter's failure to field the best starting eleven cost us a place in Russia.

Playing the weakest team twice in our group gave us the advantage, if only we capitalised on the opportunity which was right in front of us.

I had a lot of respect for Baxter after what he did at Kaizer Chiefs with limited quality but after the last two matches against Cape Verde, I was left very disappointed with his system, organisation, technical ability, structure, tactics and poor substitutions. He completely got it all wrong. Dean Furman does not come close to Jali, Kekana or Mokotjo because he just runs around doing nothing.

Gobbler does not come close to the likes of Erasmus, Serero and Tau. Manyama was awful in the first match but he was his first substitution during the second match and was again awful. His midfield should have been Jali, Kekana or Mokotjo and Dolly, Zwane, Tau and Rantie upfront. Substitutions should have been Erasmus or Serero if match fit and Ntshangase and Zungu should be in more attacking roles.

It was clear that he does not like Percy Tau, the best player we currently have in SA. Baxter must allow our players to play our SA brand of football not what he thinks is right for us which has killed our chances to qualify.

We won’t beat Burkina Faso and Senegal with such a weak coach who seems clueless just like Kaizer Chiefs' Steve Komphela.
