It is with regret we announce that the SL10.ng has come to an end in its current form, BUT football news will continue, on news24.com.ng.

We are pleased to announce that writers who made up the SL10 Squad will provide Nigerian football news at http://www.news24.com.ng/Sport/Football, so make your way now to Africa's biggest online news source for all your football updates…

SL10.ng Editor’s Note:

“For the past year SL10.ng has tried to be at the cutting edge of Nigerian football news, and we are very proud of all those involved in the site. We have broken thousands of stories, and strived to represent all of the football fraternity in Nigeria.

“To our community of loyal readers, it is you who we will miss the most, and while you were still small and growing, thank-you for your loyalty, and we hope that you will continue to support Nigerian football with all passion and fervour you have shown on the site, and follow us to our new location.

“They say ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,’ and if that is the case, thank-you to the HUNDREDS of Nigerian (and global) media outlets who copied our stories over the year (a special thanks to those who sourced us rather than just copy-and-pasted).

“To all those who contributed to SL10.ng and to our social media platforms, the regular writers, the guest bloggers, thank-you. Your passion was contagious.

“And special thanks to those who experimented with me with different innovations, like Chris Oguguo and the SL10 Web Radio Show last year, Toyin Ibitoye and his World Cup Diaries (and Toyin’s Thought thereafter), Akinlolu Alonge for his dedicated live coverage on Twitter, Ademetan Abayomi and his team of NPL match reporters who did reports for EVERY NPL game for over a year, and of course those dedicated news-hounds who shall remain nameless, you know who you are.

“To ALL the Nigerians I have interacted with since being involved with the site, thank-you for being so welcoming, and heart-warming. I have made friends for life, and Nigeria will always own a piece of my heart (except when they play Bafana Bafana of course).

“While it is sad that our time has come to an end in its current form, I hope that you will follow SL10’s squad of writers, who will now be providing football news to the biggest news site in Africa, News24.com.ng

“With every ending, there is a new beginning, and now the best football news will reach a bigger audience.”

“Oh dah-boh.”

am not a keshi fan but is good to say the truth, manu garba is not ripe to handle the super eagles for now, the problem with we nigerian fanz is we have easly forgoten that keshi win the AFCON which the so called white man could not win for us,we includin me condemn him because he did qualify nigeria for 2015 edition, many of us tip manu for super eagles job; but now we can see that coaching youth team is far difrent from coachin senior team.

@Benue you have to understand that discovering young talent is different from grooming them to stardom. Manu Garba can get away with being tactically naive at the U17 but he won't get away with that at the U20. Imagine the way European and South American teams caught him out, the same keshi you guys lowball here put up a fight against top European and South American teams at the highest level in the world cup and confederations cup with the low quality players available to him. Imagine Manu playing a formation of 4 strikers against top opposition like Brazil, I guess he was reading too much from blind supporters on this forum who haven't worked a day in football. He underrated Brazil, how much more naive can a coach be? That first loss to Brazil kicked us out of this competition. Manu must be drafted back to the U17 where he belongs, the Nff should give him a contract for 7yrs with the U17s

@benue, why did manu play one man up front? Germany win us because manu is playing defensive game instead of telling our players to mach germany one on one, as for me manu is not technical sound because he should av learn from our first defeat from brazil.

Manu just got demystified. Our problem most times is not how to succeed but how to manage success. The same people he benched are the ones who will be making a name for themselves in Europe. The woeful keeper that should have been replaced is the one you keep faith with instead of the people that brought you glory 2 years ago. There are better ways to show your boys who the boss is other than keeping them out of the team. Be a father to all. Learn to manage egos. It's not that we lost, it's the manner with which we lost. Shame!

Congrats to Germany But Third. I fault Manu's player starting 11 as one of the reason's for Nigeria's loss. It should have been clear from Germany's video tapes since the U20 qualifying tournament in 2014 and in the Group phase of the New zealand world cup that Germany is a better ball possesion team than Nigeria. So Nigeria Needed players like Musa Yahaya and Moses Simon who can dribble are very quick and can go past opposing players with relative ease. Simon would have kept the German full backs very busy. For me Bulbwa was the wrong choice for the game he lacks aggression. i believe Simon should have started ahead of Bulbwa.

@Goldfish and @luciano @baba naija. Congrats to Germany they were the better team today. But Second losing the German game does not mean Manu Garba is not good enough to Coach the Super Eagles. Manu Garba's coaching experience, knowledge and exposure is by far superior to Keshi's experience when Keshi started coaching Togo in 2004. Remember that Keshi failed woefully when he was given his first head coach role for the U20 team in 2001. Keshi's Team was knocked out in the Group phase of the African Youth Championship, While teams like Ethiopia qualified for the U20 World Cup in 2001

@Goldfish and @luciano @baba naija. Congrats to Germany they were the better team today. But First Nigeria was rather unlucky that this good U-20 Nigeria team played the world cup in the Winter where a team like Germany will have an huge advantage. Most of our boys are home-based and are not comfortable playing in the Cold. If this game was played in the Summer of Europe, Asia, or North America, the result most likely will be different. or the Germans would not have dominated the game

@wallosh10 The problem with some of you is you're so naive. Do you think the coach would have kept a player like Ihenacho on the bench if he was up to it in this tournament. In fact Ihenacho is one of the risk this coach took by taking him to the tournament. He was not with the team during their trainings and Manu was willing to take the chance on him but it was a mistake because there were players who could have made the difference but were sent home. the problem with all you clamouring for your favourite players is that you don't want to face the reality that two years is long time in football - Ihenacho is not the same player of two years ago when he was the standout player in the U17. He has lost so much space and it would take his club nurturing to bring him up again. I'm not emotional about these things. At this level the boys can learn a lot and tournaments like this are for their maturing it is not do or die to win them. My joy is two or three materials in this group could make it to the super eagles if they keep their heads.

@Baba Naija, u are funny! U think Iheanacho could not have made the difference? The Germans dominated us because they are tactically better, so the only thing that can get us something from that game is individual brilliance, of which only Success, Iheanacho, Yahaya and M Simon can provide. But the coach chose to put them on the bench, and it was only when one of this guys(Success) came from the bench that we almost came back into the game. @Baba Naija, look at the efforts of Success when he came on and prove to me that if we had another skillful player in that team like Simon, Iheanacho and Yahaya we wont create more chances than the ones we had when Success came on!

We need a foreign coach desperately. For how long will we continue to lose against teams we are supposed to beat easily? Manu Garba is just a little upgrade to Keshi, but they are both a flop

This is a classic case of pride going before a heavy fall. Over hyping and unnessary over confident killed this team from the coaches to the players and commenters on this site must share the blame. Kids who haven't achieved anything where being made heros and a youth team coach labelled garbadiola. I hope Manu returns to the U17 where he's more useful and the spiteful attack on keshi must stop since our golden boys couldn't do better than John Obuh team...... Rant exhausted

Like I said when we played Brazil, I'm saying it here that we met a better team again today. The Germans overwhelmed us on all department. They analysed our game and came with a plan which made our boys look useless. People have been talking about who played and didn't play, especially Ihenacho. The coach used the best materials available to him, and I don't think Ihenacho would have made the difference. I hope we learnt valuable lessons from this tournament in the interest of the players and coaches.

End of the road. 3 marquee players and you bench them. 3 options for substitute and you don't take advantage even past the 70th minute. More than 70% possession in favor of Germany. We were smacked upside the head. Our boys gave their all but we lost from the bench.
